Aseel Hamid is a clinical psychologist, researcher and trainer. Aseel's research spans the mental health and discrimination of vulnerable populations across the globe, and focusses on the mental health of conflict-affected populations and on stigma pertaining to disabilities and mental health problems.
She is currently consulting the United Nations, working to address stigma and gender-based violence against women with disabilities across four partner countries (Palestine, Pakistan, Moldova and Samoa). She is also working as a consultant for the World Health Organisation to contribute to a Global Evidence Review on Migration and Mental Health. She is trained as a clinical psychologist and has trained in a number of specialist mental health therapies.
Aseel has received multiple grants from UCL Grand Challenges and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR). She is also a PI for a research project funded by Trauma Aid UK NGO, which is looking at the effectiveness of online trauma therapy for forcibly displaced Syrian women, provided by forcibly displaced Syrian therapists.
