Research Summary
My research investigates the ways diaspora Somali women materialise, practice, and perform their cultural heritage, in the home and in spaces of gathering. Through the use of technology to digitise these oral traditions my research explores forms of knowledge production that are experiential and marginalised in Western contexts, and whether these expressions can provide a counternarrative to traditional representations of Somali ethnographic heritage held in museums and archives located in the UK.
Through the use of immersive sound technologies can it help to maintain the integrity, form, and three-dimensional nature of the heritage expression?
