Research Summary

I research History in Education, the History of History Education and Public History and, as a member of the Centre for Holocaust Education's research team, I research Holocaust education and education and antisemitism. In History in Education my special areas of interest include children's historical thinking, teaching and learning about historical interpretations and children's thinking about historical explanation. In Public History I am particularly interested in public discourse around history and the uses of the past in contemporary societies. Recent projects in Holocaust Education include survey research into teachers' thinking about teaching and learning the Holocaust and work on materials for teachers on the history of Bergen-Belsen. Since 2018 I have been engaged in curriculum research and development for OSCE-ODIHR and UNESCO on addressing antisemitism through education.

Teaching Summary

I lead the MA Education (History) route at UCL Institute of Education and I am module leader for the Centre for Holocaust Education's MA module The Holocaust in the Curriculum. I teach on the Centre for Holocaust Education's CPD courses and mentor on CfHE's Beacon School programme. I am also a doctoral and a masters degree supervisor.

I am interested in supervising doctoral research in all areas of History in Education, in Holocaust education and in Public History.
