I am an Associate Professor (Teaching), leading the research and development of UCL Academic Communication Centre. I work with UCL faculties to help support students' academic communication. I am also involved in several EDI projects, and collaborate with UCL Nahrein Network to support the publication of iraqi academics in international journals.

From 2007 to 2019, I founded and led various academic programmes for international students: UCL’s foundation programme in thehumanities and social sciences (the UPCH), UCL's Centre for PreparatoryStudies in Astana, Kazakhstan, the CLIE's first Pre-Master's programme in Heritage for UCL Qatar, and a Pre-Masters in Architecture in collaboration with the Bartlett.

I have also worked with the Arena Centre for Research-Based Education regularly since 2014, and was an assessor of  the HEA / Arena Fellowship until 2019.
I hold a UCL Provost Teaching Award and I am an HEA / Arena Senior Fellow.

I hold a PhD in FrenchStudies from UCL, as well as a Maitrise (MA) and Licence (BA) in Historyfrom La Sorbonne University, Paris.

Research Summary

My current research focuses on international higher education, in particular how tosupport and develop academic literacies, criticality, reflexivity and research autonomy ininternational or "diverse" contexts. I am interested in EDI and decolonial approaches, and ways to craft spaces of learning that empower students.

Teaching Summary

I have taught at UCL from pre-undergraduate to PhD level for over 20 years, designing programmes and coursesin History and Politics as well as in academic literacies.

I have taught at UCL Department of French: 'The Making of Modern France' (cultural history 1789-1968 and institutions and political parties); 'Literature in Context'; 'Citizenship and Nationhood'.

I have designed and delivered courses in European history and politics at pre-undergraduate level (UCL international foundation course), undergradudate level (“The European Apocalypse – 1914-1942”), and pre-masters level on collective memory.

I have designed and delivered postgraduate courses on dissertation and thesis writing.

In the past 10 years, I have specialised in the design and delivery of programmes that improve internationalstudents’ academic literacies, criticality and reflexivity. My UCL teaching position has brought me to teach in various settings such as Florence, Astana, Doha, and Baghdad.
