Biography

I work in the UCL Institute of Education's EPPI-Centre and I specialise in methods for systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Prior to joining the EPPI-Centre in November 2010, I worked for a research consultancy conducting evidence reviews for policy and practice, and at the Oxford University Department of Education conducting quantitative research. My DPhil (completed 2009, Oxford University) focused on meta-analytic methods and the application of meta-analysis to research questions on self-concept and self-esteem.

Research Summary
My broad specialism is methods for systematising reviewing for social research. There are two main strands within this theme: developing and testing synthesis methods, with a particular interest in quantitative synthesis including statistical meta-analysis, and evaluating the use of emerging text mining techniques for facilitating the production of systematic reviews. I also have an interest in applying secondary data analysis methods, including complex and multilevel modelling. My substantive interests primarily relate to social psychology, education, and public health.
Teaching Summary

I am the leader for the course "Methods for Research Synthesis: From meta-analysis to meta ethnography", which can be taken as a module in the MSc in Research for Public Policy and Practice or as a short course. I regularly teach short courses on research synthesis methods and have taught quantitative research methods.
