Biography

I completed my PhD in Health Psychology at the University of Surrey in 2013, looking at lifestyle-related psycho-social processes following prostate cancer diagnosis. I have also completed my Stage 2 in Health Psychology Practice training.

My first degree was in Psychology from Pantion University in Athens (2007) and I also have an MSc in Health Psychology from the University of Surrey (2008).

During my postgraduate training, I worked as a Health Psychology Trainee at the Queen Elizabeth Foundation for Disabled People in Leatherhead in 2010 and as an Intern at the World Health Organization (Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse) in 2012. I was also trained in Teaching, obtaining an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and worked as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Surrey and as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Chichester teaching undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students.

Following my PhD, I worked as a Research Assistant and Research Design Services Advisor at Imperial College London, a Senior Research Assistant at University of Southampton and a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge. I worked on projects related to e-health interventions to manage the distress of prostate cancer patients in Active Surveillance, the Integrated Care Pilot in NW London and e-health tools for optimizing earlier melanoma diagnosis. Periodically I also taught at the University of Cyprus Psychology and Medical Schools.

I am also a Research Supervisor in the Junior Researcher Programme supervising eight students in seven European Universities on a project related to using a smartphone application to assess quality of life: http://www.psychol.cam.ac.uk/junior-researcher-programme/projects and a co-founder of a start-up (StayInTrack) aiming at helping patients adhere to their psychotropic medication.

Research Summary

I am interested in questions around cancer prevention, early diagnosis and using patient-reported outcomes in cancer management and palliative care. I am currently involved in projects related to using technology to a) optimize early cancer diagnosis and b) collect validated patient data. My secondary interests is on medication adherence among chronic patients and medical education. I use a mixed methods approach to research, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches as well as systematic reviews.

Teaching Summary

I have taught psychology and medical students in areas like Health Psychology, Psychology Applied in Medicine, Research Methods, Statistics and Introduction to Psychology. At UCL I am involved in teaching Theory of Measurement in the Measuring Population Health module for the BSc in Population Health, Inequalities in Healthcare for the MBBS programme and in the CLAHRC North Thames Introduction in Evaluation course.
