Biography

Before joining IOE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society in 2013, I was a secondary school teacher teaching business education and supporting cross-subject teaching and learning. I developed my interest in teacher education during this time, alongside the teaching of business as a subject specialism: my accreditation as an Advanced Skills Teacher recognises dual expertise in business education and early career teacher development. 


Through my work in teaching, teacher education and consultancy I have extensive experience of pre-service and in-service teacher development, teacher education pedagogy, coaching and mentoring. I have co-designed and delivered comprehensive induction programmes for new teacher educators at IOE and abroad, led activity to enhance quality across initial teacher provision serving 1500+ students per year, and contributed to high-profile education projects in Jordan and Armenia.

Research Summary

My research interests are:

  • How teacher educators conceptualise and enact their role, and how to better support new teacher educators to engage with the complexity of the work they do;
  • Theorising business education, and the preparation of effective business teachers;
  • The professional formation of new teachers, particularly on salaried/employment-based programmes of initial teacher education. This is the focus of my doctoral thesis (EdD), expected completion: 2022.
