Research Summary
I completed my NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship funded PhD in 2020. I was then awarded an NIHR Development Skills Enhancement Award (DSE; Oct 2020-Sep 2021) and have since been awarded an NIHR Advanced Fellowship (July 2022 - June 2027). I am currently employed as a Senior Research Fellow in the department of Language and Cognition, University College London (UCL); and as a senior speech and language therapist (SLT) at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery.
My research is focused on dementia, particularly on Primary Progressive Aphasia and aphasia in other dementia’s such as Alzheimer’s disease and Front-temporal dementia. I lead research developing novel interventions for people with PPA and their families. I am also interested in research on decision making and mental capacity in clinical practice. I conduct mixed methods research that combines trial work, and qualitative analysis of conversation, individual interviews and focus groups.
I also co-lead the PPA branch of Rare Dementia Support https://www.raredementiasupport.org.
Teaching Summary
I am also permanently employed as a Lecturer within the department of Language and Cognition at UCL. My responsibilities include co-ordination of the PALS0004 Conversation Analysis module, teaching on the role of speech and language therapy in dementia on the MSc SLS and MSc Dementia. I also supervise MSc project students, several speech and language therapists funded by the NIHR Pre-doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship (PCAF) scheme and a number of PhD students within the department of Language and Cognition and the Dementia Resarch Centre.
