Research Groups
Research Summary

My current postgraduate research projects concentrate on different aspects of the GMC Fitness to Practice procedures. These include looking at the demographic spread of doctors in these procedures as well as trying to identify early signs of poor performance. I am also PI on a project looking at the fairness of decisions at interim order panel at the GMC and in 2015 was a collaborator on a Health Education North Central and East London grant on patient empowerment.

My undergraduate research is based on the fairness of assessments and students perceptions of feedback. Working with an undergraduate student I received a change maker grant for this work in 2016.  This project has been used to develop a feedback strategy that and redesign the feedback for used in summative assessments.

I am a member of the national Prescribing Safety group which is researching which aspects of prescribing medical students find difficult with; I have also performed a three year study of the performance of final year medical students in an OSCE of oxygen prescribing.

Teaching Summary

As the academic lead for clinical and practical skills, I provide the teaching material for these sessions throughout the medical course. As some of this teaching is taught using peer assisted learning, I also write and supervise the material used by our peer assisted learners.

As the academic lead for assessment, I write the strategy for assessment for the medical course and have input into all assessments. The final year assessment is my responsibility to write and deliver. I deliver feedback about assessments both to large groups and individuals.
