I am a senior clinical lecturer in medical education with a background in medicine, diabetes and endocrinology. I have been academic lead for clinical and practical skills at UCL medical school since 2005 and academic lead for assessment since 2008.
I am currently working with the School of Pharmacy to develop their Clinically Enhanced Pharmacist Independent Prescribing course I also have a consultancy with the Royal College of Physicians to develop assessments for physician associates national exam. I have previously worked with Department of Health and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges to develop assessments for selection into specialty training.
My current postgraduate research projects concentrate on fairness in assessment for undergraduate medical students. As part of this project we have developed an assessment amnesty site as well as designing a new Moodle site which contains all the information that students need about all aspects of formative and summative assessment and feedback. We are currently working with students to gain an insight into the students views on these resources and the current assessment strategy.
Previously I looked at different aspects of the GMC Fitness to Practice procedures. These include looking at the demographic spread of doctors in these procedures, looking for early signs of poor performance and also analysing data from doctor who sit the alternative revalidation assessment.
As the academic lead for clinical and practical skills, I provide the teaching material for these sessions throughout the medical course. As some of this teaching is taught using peer assisted learning, I also write and supervise the material used by our peer assisted learners.
As the academic lead for assessment, I write the strategy for assessment for the medical course and have input into all assessments.
