Biography
Born in the Midlands but living in London since 1975. Educated at University College London (BA hons French 1979; PhD on "Sexuality in the Literary and Philosophical Work of Jean-Paul Sartre" 1986). Has taught in Sheffield (1983-84), Southampton (1984-87) and UCL (1987 - present)

20th Century Existentialism, especially the work of Jean-Paul Sartre (literature, philosophy and other)
Roland Barthes and French Critical Theory
Holocaust writing
The work of Georges Perec and other members of the Oulipo
Literature and Politics in Haiti, especially in the period since 1986 - now
