I work in the field of education and international development. My research interests include a concern with educational systems and practices in contexts of poverty, with a particular focus on gender and inequality. I have a strong interest in adult literacy and the experiences of adult learners, and in the relationship between education and migration. Much of my current research is focused on understanding the way in which ideas regarding education, literacy or gender equality move and are translated between spaces in the context of global mobility and migration.
Current and recent research projects include: a critical study of the wider benefits of postgraduate programmes in international development; an exploration of the literacy and learning practices and experiences of migrant domestic workers in London; research on teacher education and gender equality in Nigeria; and a study of the enactment of global goals on gender, education and poverty reduction in Kenya and South Africa.
I am the programme leader for the MA in Education and International Development.

My research interests include:
Education policy and practice in low income contexts
Gender equality and women's empowerment
Adult literacy/literacy as a social practice
The relationship between migration and education
