I have been Research Director in UCL Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering for 8 years, leading the Department through REF2014 (where we were the highest ranked biomedical engineering submission) and REF2021. We have one of the highest research incomes per academic of any Russell Group department and have been awarded >10 prestigious 5-year personal Fellowships in that time. I am also the Infrastructure Lead in UCL ISH. I lead the UK’s contribution to IPERION HS, a major EU research infrastructure grant which is part of a series of grants that aims to become a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC).
I created new BEng/MEng Biomedical Engineering degrees, resulting in the appointment of four new posts. I then led the team that designed, created and delivered the new programmes, including a successful bid for accreditation. The programmes began in 2014 and currently have 115 students. I co-ordinated teaching across the programme, including 16 new modules and 6 week-long problem-solving 'scenarios', providing students with employability skills and practical experience. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
I have led modules on Heritage Imaging, Physics of the Human Body, Treatment with Ionising Radiation and others, and taught on >10 modules.
