Biography

I have held senior clinical and academic positions in both the UK and London. I hold triple post graduate qualifications in medicine, psychiatry and addiction medicine. I was Senior Lecturer at NDARC (UNSW) and Senior Staff Specialist / Clinical Director for Drug health Services in South West Sydney between 2002-2009. In 2009 I returned to the Uk to take up the position of Clinical Senior Lecturer and Program lead for the MSc in Addictions. I was also Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist for The Maudsley Party Drug Clinic and SLAM addiction services. From 2011-2015 I was Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist at SLAM for the London Borough of Southwark, where I led general out patient services and specialist community serves fro those suing cannabis and involved in the Chemos-Sex scene. Since 2016 I have led clinical addiction services across 3 London prisons. 

Research Summary

I have been an active researcher in the drugs and alcohol field for over 20 years. I have published over 120 research papers and books chapters covering diverse topics from opioid substitution, treatment satisfaction and evaluating training programs to cannabis, MDMA, digital health and the impact of drug policy on use and harms. my h-Index is 40. 

I have always sought to place the person who uses drugs or is seeking treatment at the centre of my research question. 

I am currently involved in research through Global Drug Survey (www.globaldrugsurvey.com) 

My interests currently include 

1) cannabis - medical therapeutics , harm reduction , withdrawal, public health policy and legal product labelling 

2) MDMA, cocaine and amphetamine - acute toxicity and harm reduction 

3) Psychedelics - micro-dosing , challenging experiences and use within psychiatry.  

4) Drug policy and drug policing 

5) The dark net and on line drug markets 

6) alcohol and digital health interventions (www.drinskmeter.com) 

Teaching Summary

I love teaching 

I have done loads of it and have developed face to face programs, online training initiatives and state-wide programs. I now use on-line platforms as the major outlet for what has been a passions of mine for 25 years.
