Biography

Andrew is a Research Associate in Tsunami Engineering, focusing on structural response and assessment.  Prior to joining UCL in 2015, he worked in the offshore industry as an approval engineer for structures and submarine pipelines with DNV GL.

Andrew's background is in civil engineering and economics.  He holds a PhD in structural engineering from Imperial College London, where his thesis focused upon the design and stability of steel structures in the strain-hardening range.  His research placed equal emphasis on large-scale structural testing, numerical analysis, and purely analytical methods.

Andrew studied for his graduate diploma and master's in civil engineering at UCL, prior to which he completed an undergraduate degree in economics at the University of Bath.

Research Summary

Andrew's current research is with the EPICentre Urban Waves project team, based partially at HR Wallingford, where his role is to conduct detailed structural analyses of buildings and coastal defences that are subjected to tsunami loading, leading to the development of tsunami fragility curves.  His previous research examined practical aspects of inelastic stability of steel structural elements and systems.
