My research mostly focusses on understanding deep Earth processes, through high pressure-temperature experimental petrology, geochemistry and mineral physics. I perform experiments at extreme conditions using piston cylinder, multi anvil and diamond anvil cell apparatus, often in combination with synchrotron x-rays or neutron diffraction to better understand geodynamic processes occurring throughout the mantle.
My research has mostly focussed on understanding the behaviour and influence of volatile species, mostly carbon and hydrogen, in the mantle. I have investigated the Earth's deep carbon cycle, both using experiments to understand the behaviour of carbon during subduction and by studying sub-lithospheric diamonds and the mineral inclusions they trapped during their growth. More recently I have mostly been focussing of the role hydrogen, and water, plays in controlling mantle geodynamics.
