Research interests:
- Long-term sustainability
- Digital Stone Construction
- Structural health monitoring
- Material testing
As a bridge/structural engineer, my areas of main research interests are structural behaviour, materials and structural monitoring. I am particularly interested in the long-term performance of built assets, including whole-life, durability, fatigue, maintenance needs and long-term performance.
I am developing the new Digital Stone Construction sector to offer an ultra-low emission alternative for bridges and housing.Through the adaptation of digital technologies, the traditional stone sector will be transformed into the leading edge and made suitable for large-scale construction at competitive cost.
Working with stakeholders and policy makers, we are exploring opportunities for embedding long-term sustainability into government and industry policies and identifying solutions for technical implementation.
I have taught a variety of civil engineering subjects, such as structural design and analysis, infrastructure management, bridge engineering, construction materials, supervised undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and PhDs.
