Research Summary
My main research interests are in Knowledge-Based Systems, Natural Language Processing and Text Mining, particularly in semantic annotation and metadata enrichment with respect to conceptual reference models, ontologies and knowledge base resources. I have contributed to the cultural heritage data modelling and semantic enrichment aims of the EU Horizon 2020 project CrossCult, whereas in the past I have contributed to the AHRC funded project STAR exploring the role of CIDOC-CRM in semantic annotation for the purposes of cross-searching and to the EU FP7 Ariadne Framework researching the multilingual application of Natural Language Processing in archaeological grey literature. I have also developed the Welsh Natural Language Processing Toolkit of the General Architecture for Text Engineering GATE.

I have also designed and delivered modules in the areas of Information Science and Web Development for the Faculty of Computing and Engineering (University of South Wales). I have supervised undergraduate projects and co-supervised post-graduate dissertations. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) since 2011, I hold a MSc in E-Learning, and I have very good understanding of the modern teaching and learning technologies, pedagogical principles and theories.
