Biography

I am a British Academy postdoctoral fellow at UCL Institute of Education. Building on my research in refugee camps, my postdoc deals with refugees' language practices and their language learning processes in other spaces such as squats and self-organised classes as part of their everyday struggle within urban social movements in Athens.

My research interests are language and migration, language and humanitarian governmentality, critical/ discourse analysis, language and identity, intersections of language, gender, religion and social class.

I hold a PhD in Linguistics from School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London, an MRes in Language Discourse and Communication from King's College London and a BA in English and Linguistics from Queen Mary University of London.

Before joining UCL Institute of Education, I worked at University of Westminster as a British Academy Postdoctoral Researcher. I also worked as an MA tutor in Language Education for Refugees and Migrants and previously as a field researcher on Lesvos Island, at Hellenic Open University as well as spending a period of time at University of Texas at San Antonio in 2017 as a visiting scholar.

In addition to my academic positions, I worked with refugee children in a school funded by UNICEF in Athens.
