I worked in the publishing industry for 15 years as a Commissioning Editor and Publisher. I worked for Pearson plc, Thomson Reuters and was most recently Publishing Director for the academic press of a major professional institution.

In my professional work I have set up and managed commercial business units and launched various commercial enterprises, from book lists to major online information services.

I was a member of the Professional Development Committee of the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) and I am member of the Association for Publishing Education (APE) and SHARP.

Research Summary

Research interests include the value and impact of social media within the UK publishing industry and publishing companies in transition. I am particularly interested in the skills and knowledge publishers need as they manage the digital transition and harness new technologies.

On-going research investigating the impact of social media use in publishing companies (PhD).

Teaching Summary

I teach on several modules on the MA in Publishing programme including Sales, Marketing & Promotion, Publishing Contexts and Ethics in Publishing.
