Biography
My scientific research to date has stemmed from a broad interest in visual neuroscience. My undergraduate Masters research project focussed on the characterisation of a new optogenetic tool for control of metabotropic signalling in mammalian cell cultures and in-vivo. I began my PhD in 2012, where my primary interests focused on investigating residual visual-responses in the retina and visual thalamus of transgenic mouse models of retinal degeneration using both anatomical and electrophysiological techniques. I submitted my thesis in September 2016 to the University of Manchester for a PhD in Neuroscience, supervised by Professor Robert Lucas and funded by the European Research Council. I am now a research associate in the laboratory of Professor Robin Ali, based at the Institute of Ophthalmology, UCL. I am currently investigating the efficacy of stem cell therapy treatments for inherited retinal degenerations using in-vitro electrophysiological recordings from the mouse retina following transplantation of HeSC-derived cone photoreceptors.
