Biography

Claire is currently a postdoctoral research associate working in the CEGE department at UCL.  Her project involves collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital to investigate the antimicrobial effects of intermetallic nanoparticles for the development of air and water filtration systems.

Before coming to UCL, Claire completed her undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences (Hons) at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh in 2010.  She continued her studies at HWU, receiving an MSc (distinction) in Biotechnology after being awarded a competitive scholarship for academic excellence (2012).  Claire most recently completed her PhD at Imperial College London in 2016 which involved the development and analysis of complex bacteria and virus infection networks in natural microbial communities.

Research Summary

Claire's research interests involve analysing complex relationships between microbial communities and their surrounding environments, whether they be natural or manmade.  Her work employs a wide range of analytical and technical applications with expertise in flow cytometry, molecular and microbiological techniques. 


Furthermore, she has also gained extensive experience working in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry developing manufacturing processes to improve decontamination issues surrounding drug development.
