Biography

Christine has taught on a range of teacher education and Master's programmes at the IOE and elsewhere.  Prior to her return to the IOE in 2011, she was responsible for primary initial teacher education at the University of East London. Following this, Christine was appointed to the National Strategies as a Regional Director for Initial Teacher Education.  She is currently the Institute of Education Faculty Lead for BME Attainment and is the co-convenor of the Race and Leadership Special Interest Group of BELMAS.

Research Summary

Christine's research focuses on the broad areas of : 'race', teacher education, gender, intersectionality and leadership. Her research examines; (i) how teacher educators’ in an increasingly segmented teacher education market, conceptualise the aims and praxis of equality; (ii) the lived experiences of BME teachers and the cumulative impact of intersectional identities; (iii) the nexus of of race, ethnicity and school leadership. She is interested in using the theoretical frameworks of Critical Race Theory and Whiteness in examining individual, institutional and structural inequalities in education,



Teaching Summary

Christine contributes to the School Direct (Salaried) and, School Direct PGCE Top Up programmes run by the Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment, and the M Teach programme run by the Department of Culture, Communication and Media. She is a dissertation supervisor for  the MA Primary Education (Policy and Practice) and MA Early Years run by the Department of Leadership and Learning.
