Research Summary

As a member of the Institute of Cardiovascular Science, I have been responsible for processing and analyzing samples from patients with cardiomyopathic disease (Dilated cardiomyopathy, Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular cardiomyopathy), heart failure and sudden cardiac death, using Ultra-Deep Sequencing technology, with the aim of implementing DNA diagnosis into clinical practice.

Teaching Summary

I am acting as a lab supervisor for BSc, MSc and PhD students as part of the departmental teaching curriculum. This activity allows me to reflect on my teaching approach and identify methods in relation to involving the student in their active and practical learning.

I have given lectures for the Applied Genomics Module at the Institute of Child Health, UCL, and I have been an active member of the Cardiovascular Genetics MSc module.

My best teaching achievement, thus far, has been the co-planning and running of a new 15 credit MSc module for the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences teaching programme. This activity allowed me to critically think, plan and allocate hours for a new course as part of an MSc Cardiovascular Science Course, that included action to create titles and notes for lectures, practicals, tutorials, exercises and e-learning. This course has been accepted by UCL in 2016 and has been running successfully since then.
