Biography
Catherine Disney is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Tomo-SAXS (Dynamic Tomographic and SAXS Imaging of Joint Mechanics) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at University College London. Her previous postdoctoral research was in the School of Materials and School of Engineering at the University of Manchester, including an ESPRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship. She was awarded her PhD in Regenerative Medicine from the University of Manchester in 2018. She received a First Class Honour degree in Mechanical Engineering (MEng) and was awarded the Conoco Project Prize (2014) from the University of Liverpool.
Research Summary
Catherine's research interests include imaging biological tissues using x-ray micro tomography under load. Her PhD focused on imaging the intervertebral disc using synchrotron CT and measuring strain using digital volume correlation. Her current project is to combine dynamic tomography and small angle x-ray scattering techniques to provide strain measurements in soft tissues from nanoscale to microscale. This includes minimising x-ray radiation dose and further development of digital volume correlation strain measurements.
