Biography


After obtaining an MSc in Cognitive Neuropsychology I completed my PhD in Medical Psychology at UCL Institute of Neurology, Raymond Way Neuropsychiatry Unit. 

I am an academic and practitioner psychologist, an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society (AFBPsS), Chartered Psychologist (2003); Health Psychologist (2004) and I am registered with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2003. I was Academic Head of Institute of Neurology Education Unit for 11 years from its establishment: 01-May-2006 until the Education Unit was closed on 01-Oct-2017 after a re-organisation.

I was a Faculty Sub-Dean for 5 years in the (then named) Faculty of Clinical Sciences. I was Institute of Neurology Departmental Graduate Tutor (DGT) for 10 years.

I am Co-Director of UCL Cultural Consultation Service (CCS).

I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). I am currently Associate Professor.

Research Summary

The psychological sequelae of neurological disorders, including impact of diagnosis, coping strategies, interventions to improve quality of life.The development of disease-specific outcome measures for neurological disorders including epilepsy, dementia, Tourette Syndrome, movement disorders (PD, PSP, MSA).

I am interested in Functional Neurological Symptoms (FNS). In collaboration with colleagues in UCL / NHNN Department of Neuropsychiatry and Department of Uro-Neurology, I am researching the presentation of patients with FNS, the development of Guided Self Help (GSH), and brief psychotherapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT).

Teaching Summary

I am Co-Director of two masters programmes:

(i) MSc Clinical Neuroscience: I joined Professor Roger Lemon just after this programme (the first MSc at UCL QSIoN) was launched.

(ii) MSc Brain and Mind Sciences: I was instrumental in setting this up with Professor Richard Frackowiak

I am a Module Convenor, a Tutor and Mentor. I supervise MSc, PhD and MD(Res) students.
