Biography
I graduated in 2001 with a PGCE in Languages from the Institute of Education, after completing a BA (joint) Hons in French and Italian, followed by a period of living and working in France and London, including teaching ESOL. I was a teacher of secondary French (mainly) from then until 2014. Alongside a passion for languages education, my interest in international citizenship and human rights led me to teach some religious education and to lead the citizenship department, as well as to successfully apply for and be awarded, on behalf of the school, the accredited British Council International Schools Award. An interest in raising the profile of foreign languages in the curriculum led to my active advisory role on a borough-wide community of practice to improve KS2-KS3 MFL transition, and as a KS2 teacher of Spanish.

Since 2014 I have been a teacher educator, teaching on post-graduate routes into teaching: the Teach First PGDE in Modern Foreign Languages, the SCITTs in Modern Foreign Languages, and the University-led PGCE in Languages. I also designed and led the module on Learning, Teaching and Reflective Practice, on the international STEP teacher education programme.

I have a particular interest in a number of areas including: teacher and student motivation (policy, curriculum and pedagogy) in languages education; the role of secondary (languages) education in challenging gender stereotypes; developing identities: teacher/mentor/teacher educator. My overriding passion continues to be motivating, joyful, inspiring and inclusive languages teaching and learning.
