Biography
I am a final year PhD student in the Applied X-ray Spectroscopy group led by DI Dr. Anna Regoutz in the Department of Chemistry. Prior to joining the group, I completed an Integrated Masters of Engineering at the University of Leeds, specialising in chemical engineering. During my undergraduate degree I completed a Year in Industry placement scheme at the Ministry of Defence where I conducted research on energetic polymer-bonded formulations.
Research Themes
Research Summary
The focus of my PhD is to probe the interface of power semiconductor heterostructures using a combination of soft and hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). In particular, I am interested in using the dual XPS approach to study the interaction of adjacent metallisation layers in the stack, namely a titanium-tungsten diffusion barrier and copper metallisation. The majority of my experiments are conducted at synchrotron facilities in order for me to conduct measurements in the hard X-ray regime. My two favourite facilities are the Diamond Light Source here in the UK and PETRA III in Hamburg. See my website for more information on my career so far: https://sites.google.com/view/currankalha/home
