Research Summary

Combining social science insight and design-led thinking, Claire's research focuses on the possibilities of design and digital innovation within the built environment for transformative social and cultural effect. Her work informs the delivery of public engagement activities through experimentation in architectural pedagogy and research at The Bartlett School of Architecture.

Claire has collaborated on projects funded by AHRC, RIBA, Dstl and joint RCUK initiatives in the contexts of human wellbeing, security and resilience, digital public space, the value and impact of design, and speculative digital futures in the global south. These have been in partnership with the UK Science and Innovation Network, British Council, BBC and Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure amongst others.
In 2014 she was awarded an AHRC UnBox LABS Fellowship on Future Cities. Her supervision of doctoral dissertations and involvement of postgraduate students in research projects, brings an ethos of learning through dialogue and critical enquiry with students seen as co-producers of knowledge. She has delivered guest lectures across The Bartlett Faculty alongside MA Communication Design at Central Saint Martins. Claire contributes in an advisory capacity to The Bartlett Future Cities Doctoral Network, a series established in 2014 that aims to critically explore the uncertainty and complexity arising from our collective urban futures.
