Corisande is Associate Professor in Mediterranean Archaeology. She is also Director of the Society for Libyan Studies, a British International Research Institute sponsored by the British Academy. She received her BA in Archaeology, Classics and Classical Art from the Institute of Archaeology. She then moved to the United States, where she gained an MA in Classics and a PhD in Anthropology at Stanford University in 2013. Before returning to the Institute in 2015, she held a post-doctoral fellowship at Brown University and a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship at the University of Leicester. She has been awarded fellowships from various bodies, including the Leverhulme Trust, British Academy, Social Science Research Council, Dumbarton Oaks, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Loeb Foundation for her research and is a Fellow of the Society for Antiquaries.
Corisande is author of the monograph Early Islamic North Africa (Bloomsbury, 2020), co-editor of the Oxford Handbook of Islamic Archaeology (OUP, 2020) and the Aghlabids and their Neighbours (Brill, 2017) and has published many articles on different aspects of North Africa’s late antique and Islamic history. She currently co-directs two major field projects: the Bulla Regia Archaeological Project in Tunisia (2014-) with Dr Moheddine Chaouali (Institut National du Patrimoine) and the Medieval Volubilis project in Morocco (2017-) with Prof Elizabeth Fentress and Prof Hassan Limane (INSAP), as well as being the medieval specialist on the Wadi Draa Project in Morocco (2015-) and the Co-PI of the capacity-building project Training in Action for members of the Tunisian and Libyan antiquities services.
