PhD in Pragmatics (Loughborough University, UK); Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy; MA in General Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (Shanghai Jiaotong University, P. R. China); BSc in English for Science and Technology (Shanghai Jiaotong University, P. R. China).
While working at UCL as an Associate Professor (Teaching), I am a Senior Lecturer in Translation and Interpreting Studies at the University of Westminster.
I have also been a translator and an interpreter for many years.
My research interests lie in the theoretical and empirical studies of translation and interpreting, and in the broad discipline of General Linguistics and Applied Linguistics with which I believe translation and interpreting have a lot to do. My research currently focuses on the cognitive aspects of and cultural issues in translation and interpreting. I am now co-editing a book on the affect, behaviour and cognition of translation and interpreting, as well as contributing a chapter on my own.
I teach scientific and technical translation between English and Chinese. I also share-teach consecutive and liaison Interpreting between English and Chinese. Both modules are housed at the CenTraS (the Centre for Translation Studies).
