I investigate heart physiology and pathology on the macro- and microscale, making contributions to a number of fields including dilated cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disorders, and human physiology. I have achieved this through the initiation of successful international and cross-disciplinary research collaborations. I am a highly active science communicator and have presented at New Scientist Live, Pint of Science and the British Science festival. I have recently become the Chair of the public engagement focus group, which is responsible for organising and facilitating the ICH Christmas Lectures and the BRC Family Fun Day.

Research Summary

My research is undertaken in the Molecular Neurosciences Department at theInstitute of Child Health, where I am investigating mechanisms of heart failure in Duchenne muscular dystrophyand how existing gene therapies might be augmented to improve heart health in this setting.

Teaching Summary

At UCL GOSICH I am the co-director of the MRes in Child Health. Other teaching duties include project supervision of students on the MRes in Child health and MSc in Cell and GeneTherapy.

I also taught extensively as a PhD student and Post-doctoral researcher at King's College London where the highlight of my teaching experience was for the extreme physiology final year BSc module where I taught practical classes on cardiovascular responses to diving, hot environments and augmented vertical G forces.
