Special interest in corneal transplantation and high failure
risk transplant patients: >150 lamellar and penetrating transplants
performed or supervised annually, in recipients ranging in age from early
infancy to the elderly. Cataract and lens surgical procedures include complex
cataracts and intraocular lens complications.
Trainees are subspecialist cornea & external diseases fellows, who proceed
to tenured consultant level posts in the UK or overseas. Two have been
appointed to endowed chairs: Albert Jun (Wilmer Institute, Johns Hopkins
University) and Ilse Claerhout (University of Gent).
