Dan's research investigates the relationship between people and wildlife, and he is particularly interested in quantifying human influences on biodiversity. Previously, Dan investigated the harvest of wild animals for subsistence, livelihoods, and traditional medicines in Africa for his PhD. Dan is also an active member of the IUCN SSC Pangolin Specialist Group, where he investigates the illegal trade in pangolins and works towards their conservation.

Research Summary
Dan oversees the research for the Biome Health Project, investigating how biodiversity responds to different gradients of human influence (fishing, livestock grazing, deforestation and fragmentation) to better understand where to target conservation interventions. The project currently conducts research at four field sites in Fiji, Kenya, Nepal and Borneo.
