Research Summary
We analysed heavy liquid bubble chamber film, a good way of learning the peculiar properties of the elementary particles by watching them appear, curl-up and decay. My thesis results on Lambda hyperon beta decays were some of the first data to fix the size of the Cabibbo angle - one of the basic parameters of the standard model of particle physics. We analysed heavy liquid bubble chamber film, a good way of learning the peculiar properties of the elementary particles by watching them appear, curl-up and decay. Teaching Summary
My courses have ranged from First Year (Introduction to Modern Physics and Astronomy, Mathematics for Physics, Waves and Optics), through Second Year (Electromagnetism), Third Year (Plasmas) and Fourth Year (Instrumentation) to Postgraduate (Phenomenology of Particles, Detectors). I write popular articles, give school talks and occasional radio interviews on particle physics. I won a bottle of champagne from a Science Minister for a description of the Higgs boson.
