Research Summary

Darren uses an integrative approach to investigate skeletal muscle regeneration in health and disease. To achieve this, he is using in silicoin vitro (monolayer cell culture), tissue engineered and in vivo (human) models. A current focus relates to the response of skeletal muscle to peripheral nerve damage, with a focus on intrafusal fibre regeneration. Such work requires a multidisciplinary approach involving basic and applied scientists, clinicians and engineers. He has published a number of papers in the areas of skeletal muscle and tissue engineering, and has presented his research at many national and international conferences.

Teaching Summary

Darren is a Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Bioengineering within the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science, University College London. He co-leads a cross Faculty and multidisciplinary undergraduate programme in Medical Sciences and Engineering. Darren is also the Undergraduate Divisional Tutor, overseeing the development and delivery of all undergraduate provision in the Division. He teaches on a number of undergraduate and post-graduate modules in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, in the areas of anatomy, physiology, stem cells, skeletal muscle and tissue engineering.
