Dr Dalia Iskander
Dr Dalia Iskander profile picture
  • Lecturer (Teaching) in Medical Anthropology
  • Dept of Anthropology
  • Faculty of S&HS

I am currently Head of Section for Medical Anthropology and Associate Editor for Anthropology & Medicine.

I have a PhD in Medical Anthropology (University of Durham); Masters in Medical Anthropology (University of Oxford); and BSc in Archaeology and Anthropology (University of Oxford).

Research Summary

My work broadly focuses on the intersection between land, land-use and the environment and different diseases. My monograph, The Power of Parasites, is based on my doctoral research which explored factors that contributed to the spread of malaria amongst indigenous Pälawan communities in the Philippines. My subsequent work has assessed risk factors for zoonotic malaria infections in Malaysian Borneo (MONKEYBAR); the impact of a business-led sugar levy in UK restaurants; and the impact of the use of drone technology in malaria-related research (MACONDO)

I am currently Co-investigator on a UKRI-GCRF project, Depleted by debt? (PI: Katherine Brickell, Royal Holloway) and have led (with Pia Keeley-Johnston) the Edible College London Initiative at UCL which aims to build the edible potential of our campus and promote sustainable growing.
