Most recent book is Teaching as a Design Science, Routledge, 2012. Previous book, Rethinking University Teaching, Routledge, 2002, is one of the most widely cited in the field.

Research Summary

Leading research projects on:
  • developing the Learning Designer suite of tools and online community for teachers and trainer.
  • adaptive games apps for learners with low numeracy and dyscalculia.
  • the use of MOOCs for professional development courses, and as a research tool, to tackle the most education challenges of UN SDG4 for universal education, and for improving students' learning experiences and outcomes in the most challenging education contexts.
Current research:
2017 - 25: Co-I on 'Future Education' at the Refugees, Education, Learning, Information technology, and Entrepreneurship for the Future (RELIEF) Centre, based in the UCL Institute for Global Prosperity, funded by ESRC.
2017 - 23: Co-PI on 'The transformative potential of MOOCs' at the Centre for Global HE (UCL-IOE), funded by ESRC.
2017 - 22: Consultant on 'Translational specifications of neural-informed game-based interventions for mathematical cognitive development of low-progress learners', funded by the National Research Foundation, Singapore

Current supervision for 6 part-time doctoral students, and 2 MPhil/PhD students as co-supervisor
