Biography

I finished my five-year Integrated MSc (1992) from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT, Kharagpur, India) before joining the PhD program in Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA, Pune, India). The thesis work was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Varun Sahni and was done in collaboration with Prof. Alexei Starobinsky (Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics, Moscow). The thesis entitled "Certain Aspects of the formation and Evolution of Large Scale Structure in the Universe" was submitted in Oct. 1996.

I am primarily interested in understanding of physics of gravitational clustering and developing advanced statistical techniques to study its observational signatures using data from ongoing and future cosmological surveys. This will lead to a better understanding of many aspects of fundamental physics including e.g. possible modification of General Relativity on cosmological scales.

I am a member of the Planck consortium since 2000. Since 2012, I am also a member of the Euclid consortium. I participate in the  Weak Lensing, Simulation, Theory and Galaxy Clustering Working Group activity. I am also a member of the LSST.

I joined MSSL in October 2017.

Research Summary

I joined the Planck collaboration in 2000 February. As a member of the Cambridge Planck Analysis Center (CPAC), my main responsibility involved developing numerical techniques to analyse the Planck data. Under the supervision of Prof. George Efstathiou (Cambridge), I contributed to the Planck (HFI) power spectrum estimation (CTP) working group activity. From 2008 (October) onward, I have worked as a member of the non-Gaussianity working group and developed statistical estimators for primordial and secondary non-Gaussianity. One such estimator developed jointly with Prof. Alan Heavens (Imperial), was used by the Planck consortium and resulted in the discovery of point-source non-Gaussianity as well as secondary non-Gaussianity induced by cross-correlation of Integrated Sachs Wolfe (ISW) effect and lensing of CMB in the Planck data. The same estimator was also used to put stringent constraints on primordial non-Gaussianity which led to the rejection of many inflationary models. During this period I was funded by a grant held by Prof. Peter Coles, initially at the Cardiff University (2009-2013) and later at the University of Sussex (2013-2017).

Before joining the Planck consortium  I have worked on weak lensing related projects as a Humboldt fellow under the supervision of Prof. Simon White at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA, Garching).
