Biography

I received my undergraduate degrees in music engineering, electrical engineering, and business marketing from University of Miami (1996) before embarking on a ten-year, upper management track at several international professional audio manufacturing firms and business-to-business publications.  I spent the next decade as a serial entrepreneur and founder of both .com and digital marketing corporations serving the Fortune 100.  Prior to starting my PhD in 2019 under the guidance of Kaśka Porayska-Pomsta, Sarah White, and Joni Holmes, I served A-list performers and entertainment conglomerates as a GRAMMY Producer, AFM Engineer, and BMI Composer/Arranger.  My multidisciplinary heritage informs my PhD research, which converges my passions and contributions to the fields of autistic ethics, healthcare engineering, and cognitive neuroscience.

Research Summary

I am a final-year PhD student researcher experimenting with technologies and ethical issues that may help, manage, and/or alleviate the impacts of sensory sensitivity, distraction, and mental health on autistic adults' activities in mainstream environments including higher education, employment, and social contexts.

As a parent of a young autistic adult, my twenty years of personal experience and advocacy provide me with a decidedly unique and inclusive perspective.  I am grateful to be the recipient of the PPI INNOVATION GRANT from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) in conjunction with a partnership between UCL, University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre and the NHS Foundation Trust (reference: BRC743/DR/104990) for Patient Public Information on Adaptive Wearable Appropriateness as an Autistic Accommodation Project.

I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Manufactures, a Fellow of UCL's Institute of Healthcare Engineering, an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a lab member of UCL's Institute of Education Knowledge Lab, UCL's Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience Development Diversity Lab, and Cambridge University's Centre for Attention Learning and Memory Lab (Holmes Lab) and Cognitive and Brain Sciences Unit.

Teaching Summary
I have guest lectured at various UK and US universities on topics including audio production, business, and autism.  As a PGTA, I provided masters level students with digital production curriculum creation, and delivery, along with formative/summative markings and graduate recommendations.  As a content-creator, I have provided post-graduate level students with at-distance and on-line learning modules, specifically in their pursuit of a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.).
