- Faculty of the Built Environment
Daniel Zepeda was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. In 2009 he graduated from the School of Architecture at the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO). Before obtaining his architectural degree, he collaborated as an intern in a couple of practices and after graduation, he worked for over 5 years progressing from Junior Architect to Lead Architectural Designer until 2014 when he moved to London to join the Sustainable Environmental Design Masters programme at the Architectural Association.
In 2018 he started his Ph.D. at the University of A Coruña in Spain. During the first stage of his doctoral research, he simultaneously worked as a Research Assistant in joint research between the School of Architecture of La Coruña and the Architectural Association School of Architecture. During his time as a Ph.D. student, he carried out two research stays one in 2019 at the Building Performance research group at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands, and the second one in 2021 at the Building 2050 research group at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland.
Daniel joined the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering in October 2022 as a KTP Research Associate for the project Zero Carbon Buildings in Extreme Climates.

Daniel is a KTP Research Associate for the project Zero Carbon Buildings in Extreme Climates. His research investigates the requirements for the development of Zero Carbon buildings under extreme climates and weather events as a consequence of Climate Change.
His research interests cover the impact of climate change on the built environment, focusing on thermal comfort, energy consumption, and climate risks. His research is often multi-disciplinary in nature with applications to health, policymaking, building physics, and environmental sciences.
Daniel has collaborated as a tutor at the CEPT University in Ahmedabad, India as well as visiting lecturer at the Graduate School at the Metropolitan Autonomous University of Azcapotzalco, in Mexico.
He is currently part of the teaching staff at the Environmental Design Engineering program at UCL.
