Currently, I am Head of Department of Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment (CPA), having joined IoE, UCL's Faculty of Education and Society in 2022, as Associate Professor and as Programme Leader of the MA Education. I also serve as the Research Lead for the Centre of Climate Change and Sustainability Education and am part of the Centre's Leadership Team.

In 2014, I completed an AHRC funded PhD at the University of Nottingham, exploring human-environment interactions in Belize, Central America over a 3,500 year-period. Following this, I qualified as a secondary school geography teacher and taught in schools in Kent, England. After working as Director of Evaluation for the Institute for Research in Schools, I joined King's College London in 2019 as a post-doctoral Research Associate. In 2020, I was appointed Lecturer in Geography Education at King’s College London and Subject Director of the inaugural secondary geography PGCE programme.

In 2020, with Dr Cyrus Nayeri, I co-founded Routes - The Journal for Student Geographers, and I serve as Managing Editor. I am actively connected with geographical professional bodies including the Geographical Association, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (RGS-IBG) and the Geography Education Research Collective/ UK Commission on Geographical Education of the International Geographical Union.

Research Summary

My research interests are focused in geography and science education, specifically the professional development of teachers, student participation in research, and climate change and sustainability education. The Economic and Social Research Council (2021-2022) have funded an 18-month project to support those who became teachers during the global Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021-2022, together with Dr Lynda Dunlop, I was awarded the British Educational Research Association's Research Commission, with a focus on Education for Environmental Sustainability. I remain actively engaged with research in the wider discipline of geography, with a focus on human-environment interactions in Central America, including the Integrated Climate Resilience Understanding - Belize project funded by The Leverhulme Trust (2022-2025).
