I enjoyed over twenty years as a teacher and have taught in both mainstream and special school settings; with primary and secondary age ranges. Following my experience in schools I was employed as an SEN/EMAS coordinator in special schools. I spent over 10 years as a local authority Senior Advisory leader for language and literacy, developing my specialisms in both of these areas and strategically supporting schools and pupils.
For the last ten years I have worked in the Department of Psychology and Human Development (Centre for Inclusive Education) as a lecturer and currently lead a Master's programme.
See below for details.

I am involved in several Knowledge Exchange projects at present and conducting research as part of the iRead EU 2020 Horizons project (2017-2021) https://iread-project.eu/
I am currently programme leader and teaching on the Master's level Course in Specific Learning Difficulties (dyslexia) and am also leader of the Evidence Based Practice Module. I have also jointly led the Assessment Module. This Master's is accredited by the British Dyslexia Association (BDA) and provides both ATS (Approved Teacher Status) and Associate Member of the British Dyslexia Association (AMBDA) status as an outcome of the professional practice elements of the course.
I am also Programme (SpLD) route leader for the MA in Special and Inclusive Education.
I have also taught on the 2 National Award for SENCo Modules and on the Social Emotional and Behavioural Development of Children with Speech Language and Communication Needs Module. I also lecture on the Psychology with Education BSc at IOE UCL.
I have worked as a leader/facilitator on several UCL Knowledge Exchange projects: the MITA (Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants) project, the PALAC (Promoting the Achievement of Looked After children) project, the SSLIC (Supporting Spoken Language in the Classroom) project and the Supervision for School Leaders (SSL) project.
I am the Lead AMBDA tutor and supervise the professional practice elements of the masters SpLD Dyslexia Course and supervise a team of associate AMBDA tutors.
I have AMBDA, Active AMBDA and APC qualifications and am a member of both PATOSS and the BDA and part of the BDA course leaders group.
