I am an Associate Professor in Information Governance within the Department of Information at University College London.
I worked in practice for a number of years across a diverse range of organisations including banks, charities, local and national government, museums, private estates and the Royal Household. I maintain my practitioner experience through working on small scale consultancy projects.
From the mid-1990s onwards I have been involved in a number of government led initiatives to review and revise information rights law and compliance standards, including data protection, freedom of information and the information security standard ISO 27000, rolling these out on the ground in workplaces.
I am Chair of the Forum on Archives and Records Management Education and Research. I am Joint Editor of the international Records Management Journal.
My research interests are information management and rights through time, taking into account new technologies such as AI. I focus on consdering information governance, information rights law, security, risk management, records and information management, archives and heritage management. I am interested in applying a range of research methods in information science and linking this research to practice and policy changes.
I teach on the Archives and Records Management and Library and Information Studies programmes. I am currently responsible for the records and information management module and the LIS managment module. In addition I teach an Information Governance module which is available to Masters level students throughout UCL (INST0057).
