Biography
I am an Associate Professor of Dementia Epidemiology at the Division of Psychiatry, UCL. My work to-date has focussed on the application of novel causal inference methodology, such as Mendelian randomization, polygenic risk score analysis and offspring instrumental variable analysis, to identify modifiable causal risk factors for Alzheimer’s disease. My UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship will extend this work by identifying genetic and environmental determinants of vascular dementia. I will undertake genotyping of around 7000 brains in the UK Brain Bank Network with the aim of performing the largest genome-wide association study of dementia with a vascular component to-date. I hope to obtain novel mechanistic insights into disease risk and progression; develop tools to identify susceptible individuals and establish both preventative and therapeutic candidate targets. I also plan to develop a global Brain Genetics Platform to improve accessibility to post-mortem brain data.
