Biography
I studied medicine at the University of Aberdeen. I undertook a PhD in neuromuscular channelopathies at the Institute of Neurology (2006-2010). Following this I completed my clinical Neurology training at the Royal Free Hospital in London and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. I returned to the Institute of Neurology as an academic neurologist in 2014 with honorary consultant contracts at NHNN and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Research Summary
My clinical and research interests are in neuromuscular disease, particularly channelopathies. My focus in on clinical genetics and translational research to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with these disorders. Our group's work has identified new clinical presentations of channelopathies in infants and children which has enabled the establishment of a dedicated paediatric service with colleagues at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We have identified new genetic causes of muscle channelopathies and we have also identified a possible link between these disorders and sudden infant death.  I collaborate extensively with colleagues specialising in electrophysiology, paediatrics, cardiology, epilepsy and sudden death.
