Dr Elton Rodrias is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy with a MEng in Chemical Engineering (Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal) and a PhD in Solar Fuels Generation through Photocatalysis (Imperial College London). He worked as a technical consultant for Process Systems Enterprise focusing on Carbon Capture and Storage, and Power Systems. During his doctoral studies he published in peer reviewed papers and has won awards for his assistance in teaching.
Research Summary
During his PhD studies, Elton has focused on the utilising photocatalysts in the visible spectrum that were able to photodegrade pharmaceuticals and personal care products in aqueous solutions and in turn produce hydrogen.

Lately, as a Lecturer (Teaching), he has focused on engineering education with a particular focus on scenario-based learning and the gamification of education.

Teaching Summary
Lecturer (Teaching) at UCL in the Chemical Engineering Department teaches modules that are part of the Integrated Engineering Programme, or IEP – an innovative teaching framework embedded across eight different engineering disciplines, and implemented by a total of ten different UCL Engineering Departments. The programme has been cited as an ’emerging leader’ in an MIT-commissioned report on current and future engineering education.

Elton teaches mainly First Year Undergraduate students in 3 different modules, ENGF0002 Design and Professional Skills 1, ENGF0001 Engineering Challenges and ENGF0004 Mathematical Modelling and Analysis 2.
