Biography
Steven holds a BSc in Psychology (1st hons degree) from Deree College, the American College of Greece, and an MSc in Health Psychology from UCL. He received his PhD in Epidemiological Psychiatry in 2013 from the Institute of Psychiatry, King's College London. He joined UCL's department of Primary Care & Population Health (2014-16) and later UCL IOE's Department of Psychology & Human Development (2016-19) as a post-doctoral researcher . In 2019 he was promoted to Senior Teaching Fellow and in 2020 to Lecturer in Psychology. Between 2012 and 2019 he participated in multinational research consortia (e.g. ENIGMA) as a research statistician. 
Research Summary
Steven's research focuses mainly on the identification of social, cognitive, and biological precursors of mental ill-health in childhood and adolescence. He has a long-standing interest in applying advanced quantitativate methods to life-course research and much of his work involves use of longitudinal secondary data (mostly MCS, BRHS, ELSA, and Understanding Society).   


Steven also has expertise in the following areas: (1) Causal inference using observational longitudinal data; and (2) measurement scale development and validation. Steven's earlier work with the British Regional Heart Study team centered on the lifecourse origins of frailty, geriatric cognitive impairment, and all-cause mortality. 

Teaching Summary
Steven is part of the BPS accredited BSc in Psychology with Education programme. He acts as Year 2 leader and is module leader for, and teaches on, two modules: 'Research Methods & Statistics' (2019-present) and 'Cognitive Psychology' (2020-present). He also teaches on several other modules, including 'Brain & Behaviour' (2018-present), 'Personality and Individual Differences' (2019-present), 'Psychological Research' (2019-present), and 'Applied Social and Developmental Psychology' (2021-present).


Outside of the BSc programme, Steven delivers lectures for IOE MSc modules including 'Research and Analytical Methods in Psychology' (2019-present), 'Advanced Quantitative Methods' (2021-present), and 'Contemporary Issues in Educational Psychology' (2021-present). 


He has received several nominations in the UCL Student Choice Awards for his teaching, including in the categories of Excellent Personal Tutoring (2021, 2022) and Inspiring Teaching Delivery (2022).


To date, Steven has supervised 3 PhD students to completion and currently supervises undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students at UCL, all of whom conduct research in the wider area of the identification of genetic, biological and environmental -and their interactions- risk factors for mental ill-health.
