Biography

Prof. Dr. Folkert W. Asselbergs is a consultant cardiologist, vice-chair of Amsterdam Heart Center, Prof of Precision medicine at the Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Institute of Health Informatics, University College London, Director BRC Clinical and Research Informatics Unit, UCLH, and chair data infrastructure Dutch Cardiovascular Alliance (www.dcvalliance.nl). His research program focuses on precision medicine using real-world data from electronic health records and registries and -omics research for drug target discovery, pharmacogenetics and stratified medicine. Prof Asselbergs is the scientific coordinator of IMI BigData@Heart that aims to deliver clinically relevant disease phenotypes and outcomes, scalable insights from real-world evidence and insights driving drug development and personalised medicine through advanced big-data analytics. He (co-) founded several consortia of which igenetrain (www.igenetrain.net), genius-chd (www.genius-chd.org), and CAPACITY-COVID (https://capacity-covid.eu) are the most prominent and recent ones.

Teaching Summary
Prof Asselbergs is co-director of the summerschool Big Data in Health Research and coordinator of Erasmus Plus Dataclinics program that aims to develop a curriculum which complies to the need for a healthcare workforce to obtain the necessary skills regarding datascience to contribute to improving the effectiveness of medical research and patient care (https://www.dataclinics.eu).
