Research Summary

Fausto Gernone is a first-year PhD student with a research focus on competition policy. Under the supervision of Antonio Andreoni and Mariana Mazzucato, his work looks at the dominance dynamics of firms exerting exclusive control over the assets of knowledge which are relevant for their industry - be they patents, strings of code or user data - and whether antitrust authorities can stimulate innovation by governing the access to such knowledge along the innovation value chain.

Fausto holds a MSc in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BSc (Hons) in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Nottingham.

Before joining the department, he worked in the field of competition economics as a consultant, advising firms on merger analysis, State aid and antitrust issues. At the same time, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Centre for Economic Performance, investigating the link between immigration and firms' productivity investment.

In his free time, he is project coordinator for the Service Civil International.

Teaching Summary
Last year Fausto has been teaching the course Public Value and Public Purpose for MPA students, convened by Antonio Andreoni and Mariana Mazzucato.

Other teaching experiences include the course Macroeconomic Principles for BSc Economics students, convened by Kevin Sheedy and Ricardo Reis.
