Research Summary

My background is in international policy and epidemiology. For my PhD, I studied the epidemiology of eating disorders and eating disorders behaviours (with particular focus on purging behaviours) in two UK samples of adults and adolescents. One of my aims was to substantiate emerging evidence on the existence of a 'purging disorder' which is distinct from bulimia nervosa.

I currently work in the Division of Psychiatry in the PsyLife group, led by Dr James Kirkbride. My research focuses on investigating the extent to which exposure to deprivation throughout the life course is associated with an increased risk of developing non-affective psychosis and psychotic symptoms as well as pathways that explain this association. I primarily work with data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) and Swedish national registers.

I maintain an active interest in eating disorder research and I supervise a number of students who are currently undertaking eating disorders-related dissertations.
